In essence, these books breathe new life into our literary journey, sparking our curiosity, imagination, and love for reading all over again. One such book for me was Paulo  Coelho’s Eleven Minutes. It was a gift from one of my friends who insisted that I read it once. But little did I know that I would keep rereading it many times…

Plot

Eleven Minutes is a poignant exploration of love, sexuality, and self-discovery. It follows the journey of Maria, a young woman from Brazil, as she navigates through different phases of her life, from innocence to experience.

The story begins with Maria’s first encounter with love, which leaves her heartbroken and disillusioned. Seeking a better life, she moves to Switzerland and eventually finds herself working as a sex worker in Geneva. Through her experiences in the sex industry, Maria grapples with questions of intimacy, desire, and fulfillment.

However, Maria’s perspective on love is challenged when she meets Ralf, a young Swiss painter who sees beyond her exterior and connects with her on a deeper level. Their relationship forces Maria to confront her beliefs about love and sexuality, ultimately leading her to a greater understanding of herself and her desires.

Some of my favorite quotes from the book

Really important meetings are planned by the souls long before the bodies see each other.

Let us love one another, but not try to possess one another.

When I had nothing to lose , I had everything. When I stopped being who I am, I found myself

How it sparked my reading journey?

This book was an amazing read for me, how one gains the ultimate meaning of life through a series of rollercoaster of expectations and truth of life is really inspiring. Its more about dreams, desires and their realties. The book  encapsulates the profound truth that each individual’s journey is unique, and we can never fully understand the experiences and struggles of others. It made me realise the importance of empathy, humility, and open-mindedness when interacting with others, as everyone’s path in life is shaped by their own pain, sacrifices, and choices. Paulo Coelho’s writing style had impacted me to such an extent that I started exploring some mature reads, some unknown authors and their works. This book will remain my favorite as it was   The book that Opened worlds…..

  1. I haven’t read this book, but I found his style simple and effective. This one also sounds like someone speaking the truth and opening your eyes to the many things that we miss. I liked The Alchemist for this, I guess I will pick this too someday.

  6. I read this book I think when I was in college and the representation of sexuality with spiritualism and love and as worship is something that has stayed with me, even after all these years. I have forgotten the name of the girl in it but her journey is something I remember a fair bit, how she learns the titular significance of eleven minutes.
