My Take

Plants play a vital role in the existence of living creatures and environment. It balances our ecosystem, reduces global warming and provides food. Although Plants are always givers to us the relievers.  Now the question is “Have we ever given a thought about what we In return are giving back to them?  Or are even doing anything for them? That’s what this book by Rishikesh Upadhyay is based on.

The author begins with an interesting prologue, that intrigues the reader to know more about the subject. Every chapter begins with a quote,  and discusses how various environmental  entities impact  the plants.  The book talks about many topics right from photosynthesis,  to the factors that influence stress in plants. The stress factor was new to me as I had never heard of it before.

Furthermore the author has included a glossary for the technical terms along with some suggested readings on the topic. I liked the way he has divided the indexes based on author’s, scientific names etc which is quite helpful for a quick reference. The inclusion of illustrations gives one a clear picture of what has been talked about.

The book has 17 well organized chapters, each of which covers a different aspect or challenge faced by the plant. Written in simple language the book gives us a detailed analysis of the plant ecosystem.  The author’s extensive research on the subject is evident as he takes us into the world of plants and let’s us live and experience its life. Amongst all the information the book provides iwas quite surprised by the impact of the cell phone radiation on plants. Kudos to the author for highlighting these facts and providing relevant insights on the same.

Although the book is aimed at botany students, I suggest other readers can read and draw inspiration from the plants as to how to survive and face challenges thrown in every step of life.

A book that takes us into the life of plants and let’s us live, experience every problem faced by them, and finally learn to evolve……
